The NWIEP has launched its first year delivery plan and asked ‘What’s In It For You?’. The document – available here  – explains how the sub-regions and regional providers have been funded by the NWIEP and outlines their improvement and efficiency programmes.

November 16, 2007 - North west councils can now unlock the treasures of The Chest: A new, on-line tendering centre has been launched by the North West Centre of Excellence

October 31, 2007 - Councils strike new deal on post: A group of councils from the north west have struck a new deal that could save up to £1million a year on postal costs.

October 24, 2007 - Scheme to cut bureaucracy goes live: Doing business with local authorities will now be easier with a national scheme to cut bureaucracy, reduce duplication and simplify the buying of goods and services.

October 5 2007 - South Africa mission drops in on NWCE: A business delegation from South Africa, on a mission to find out about procurement in the UK, have spent a day with the North West Centre of Excellence.

August 2 2007 - The power to perform: The NWCE has supported Wigan Borough Council in a successful drive to become more energy efficient. The borough has started to use a simple system that reduces energy consumption called powerPerfector, and now has the potential to save more than £183,000 a year.

July 13 2007 - NWCE launches drive to transform third party spend: The North West Centre of Excellence has launched a major drive to investigate the way councils invest £6.5bn annually on third party spend.

June 7 2007 - All points lead to Due North: The North West Centre of Excellence has appointed a team of experts to provide a regional procurement portal and eTendering solution.

May 23 2007 - Sold on Savings: Officers and Members in the north west were sold on savings when the North West Centre of Excellence staged its second Bargain Hunt event which showed local authorities how to make annual savings of around £100 million a year.

April 18 2007 - Buy Smarter North West Councils Advised: The NWCE believes local authorities may be missing out on clear-cut opportunities to get significantly better value for the money they are spending.
 
March 23 2007 – Red letter day for North West councils:  Councils in the north west have saved £600,000 on their stationery bills after a major push by the North West Centre of Excellence to get them to use ready-made buying agreements. 

November 11 2006 – North West councils hammered for £10M savings!
Twelve councils in the north west are £10million richer following three e-auctions in the region. 

September 9 2006 - Transport Project Champions:  A national transport efficiency champion has revealed that local authorities could make individual savings of up to £1million a year by changing the way they run their public transport operations.

July 27 2006 – North West councils in the frame for major savings!   Local authorities in the north west have saved more than £2.3million in the last 12 months, thanks to a government-backed purchasing initiative. 

June 22 2006 - £millions of Savings on the cards for North West Councils:    A major switch in the way local authorities in the north west reimburse petty cash and expense claims of employees could save council tax payers at least £12million.
