WELCOME to NWIEP NOW!, the bi-weekly newsletter from the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership.

We want to hear good news stories and lessons learned from councils in the region that relate to improvement and efficiency or partnerships/collaborations.

Anyone with news to be included in NWIEP NOW!  should contact
Beverley Brooks.
fireworksWhat's in it for us "special"!

A ONE-OFF, not to be missed "What's in it for us?" event will be hosted by the NWIEP Transformation Programme in September 2008.

Delegates will have the unique opportunity to see a huge number of not previously available case studies from across the sub-regions, speak to the people behind the case studies, ask questions and learn the secrets of success!

New information will be shared about transformation, collaboration and shared services.

Don't let your council miss the chance to learn from those who have 'worn the tee-shirt' and discover valuable lessons that can make all the difference!

The date and venue of this event will be confirmed soon, but you can register your interest now by emailing Emily.turner@tameside.gov.uk

THE North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership has now received all programme proposals from potential project providers in the region.

The submissions will be considered by the NWIEP Management Board at their first meeting on May 20, 2008, to ensure providers' programmes are in line with the Partnership's three-year improvement and efficiency strategy and, therefore, able to receive funding to deliver those programmes.

Copies of the strategies will be made available following the Board's approval.
NewspaperStrategic summary

THE North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership has prepared a briefing note that summarises the final report on the National Procurement Strategy (NPS) for Local Government 2003-2006.

The brief outlines the main findings where work is still required to meet milestones from the  planned North West Efficiency Programme, and explains how the NWIEP will be carrying out  a survey to confirm the situation within the region, as report figures are from 2006.

piggy bankCaring about costs

THE latest newsletter about the Care Funding Calculator, is now available.

The Care Funding Calculator (formerly called the National Toolkit) has been developed by the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships to manage the costs of residential care and supported living for adults with learning difficulties.

The calculator provides a breakdown of both the individual package of care and the accommodation related costs, and allows care commissioners to strike a fair and sustainable deal for the service.  A regional version of the model has already proven to be a success in the South East with councils saving up to 13%.
